How long do clip in hair extensions last? ›

If you regularly use your clip in hair extensions and care for them well, they can last you anywhere between 3-6 months and sometimes even over a year. But again, like all hair extensions this depends on how well you take care of them.

Clip-ins themselves won't cause damage, it all comes down to how you apply and wear them. "If you wear clip-ins every day this can lead to breakage and even traction alopecia [a condition where constant strain on hair follicles can cause hair loss]", explains Jones.

Although you can technically install your own hair extensions it is highly not recommended. The only type of hair extensions you should be installing on your own are Clip-Ins. Even the most talented hairstylists go to other certified hair extension stylists to get their extensions installed.

If you would describe your hair as “average” and neither thick nor thin, the general rule of 8 packs will most likely apply to you in this instance. If you have thick hair, to achieve a full head you may find that you require more than 8 packs, and we would recommend purchase at least an additional 2 just in case.

You can wear them daily without any discomfort, like scalp itching. Also, with some care, you can rest assured they won't damage your hair. But how long do extensions last if used every day? Whilst a great option for people who don't want the commitment of micro ring extensions, clip-in hair extensions are not designed to be worn daily and could cause hair loss and/or damage if over-used. Likewise, these extensions should not be slept in or worn when showering, exercising or swimming.

Heavy daily usage of clip in hair extensions, especially clip in hair extension sets over 180 grams will break you hair off! One of the biggest misconceptions about clip-in extensions is that they will look fake once they have been styled into your natural hair. While this is certainly possible, particularly if the extensions are not the best quality, extensions don't need to look unnatural.

Never sleep in Clip-In Hair Extensions or Clip-In Ponytails. As they are not as securely attached as permanent extensions, they move around as you do during your sleep, loosening their grip as they go. This puts a lot of tension on the scalp and hair, which can initiate hair breakage.

If a section is too thin, your clip in hair extensions are more likely to slip off at the first opportunity. If a section is too thick, chances are the clips will struggle to have a strong grip and may “pop” off as they don't have any room to safely clip on.
